France’s polystyrene recycling figures set to hit new highs with help of polystyrene compactor
Citeo has selected the Belgian Indaver and the Spanish Eslava, in partnership with Valorplast, to process “on a large scale” polystyrene household packaging collected in France. Polystyrene packaging will be recycled by Eslava and Indaver Citeo
Citeo is launching a sector for the recycling of yogurt pots in particular, with the prospect of a return to food contact. For Citeo, this is “the launch of the large-scale recycling sector for polystyrene household packaging collected in France”.
Following a call for tenders, the company approved for the recycling of packaging and household paper under extended producer responsibility (EPR) selected the Belgian Indaver and its future Plastic2Chemicals factory, in Antwerp (Belgium) , and the Spanish company Eslava – in partnership with Valorplast – for the long-term recycling of a minimum volume of 10,000 tonnes per year of PS waste. For rigid polystyrene and expanded polystyrene produced in households, various regions in France have issued relevant policies to help with recycling.
Expanded polystyrene is different from rigid polystyrene. Rigid polystyrene is usually used to make yogurt bottles, while expanded polystyrene undergoes a foaming process to fill the PS with air. Expanded polystyrene (EPS) packaging with strong shock-absorbing capabilities is formed. The key to recycling this kind of packaging is to squeeze out the air first and then recycle it to reduce transportation costs.
Use GREENMAX polystyrene compactor to crush the packaging and compress it to achieve preliminary recycling of polystyrene. The compressed polystyrene volume becomes one-fifth of the original volume. Especially GREENMAX polystyrene compactor uses cold pressing technology, which is very suitable In the French recycling market, most French recycling industries choose to use cold pressing technology for recycling. This recycling method is also used on a large scale in Europe.
The current polystyrene recycling trend in France is very good, not only in the field of recycling household waste, but also in the recycling of industrial and commercial fields. Currently, 33% of EPS packaging (household, industrial and commercial) in France is recycled. Recycling rates for industrial and commercial EPS packaging have reached 50% and we believe this is strong progress. "Elipso President Christian Théry said. If more polystyrene compactors are used in recycling work, polystyrene recycling in France will have better results.
